Best Bets for June Th3

Ready for an art-filled evening on the town? Here is my suggestion for tonight's route:

4:30 PM or 8:00 PM (see last event): Take a walk along West Fayette Street at the new Lipe Art Park (corner of W. Fayette and Geddes Streets)
5:00 PM: Stop at Delavan Art Gallery to visit with some of the artists and listen to live jazz by Marcia Rutledge and Dave Solazzo
5:15 PM: Go to Roji Tea House and grab some bubble tea to go, taking advantage of their first Th3 special "3 for 3" (see below)
Drive up to SU and park for free in the Q4 lot (across from the main bus stop near Schaffer Art Building) or catch the Connective Corridor bus up to campus
5:55 PM: Arrive at SUArt Galleries to meet with David Prince for a tour of SU's campus Th3 venues, visit SUArt Galleries, a few campus sculptures and a mural, Light Work and Special Collections Research Center
7:30 PM: Finish up at SU and have dinner either on Marshal Street or in Armory Square OR grab dinner to go and finish the evening with a picnic in Lipe Art Park while watching the sunset

Have fun!

Th3. THE THIRD THURSDAY, SYRACUSE'S VISUAL ARTS OPEN
Runs June 21 with a Special Tour and Artist Presentation

SYRACUSE, NY (June 7, 2007) — June's Th3, Syracuse's visual arts open, will feature a special guided tour of venues on Syracuse University's campus and the opportunity to meet local artists. Th3, The Third Thursday, is a wonderful time to browse Syracuse's many art galleries from 5 - 8 PM on June 21 and enjoy a night on the town. Th3 establishes Syracuse as an arts city and makes the visual arts in Syracuse more accessible to the local and regional public.

As a special event for June's Th3, David Prince, Associate Director of SUArt Galleries, along with staff from Light Work and Special Collections Research Center, will be giving a tour of several Th3 venues located on the Syracuse University campus. The tour will begin promptly at 6 PM at SUArt Galleries in Shaffer Art Building on Syracuse University's campus. David Prince will give a guided tour of SUArt Galleries, then walk across campus visiting sites such as "The Herakles" by Antoine Bourdelle and the mural "The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti" by Ben Shahn along the way. The tour will then stop at the Special Collections Research Center in E.S. Bird Library and the photography galleries of Light Work in the nearby Robert B. Menschel Media Center where staff will give a personal introduction to their venues. The guided tour is ideal for people would like to become more familiar with Syracuse University's campus and enjoy the significant and impressive exhibitions that these venues offer.

WHAT: Guided Tour of Th3 visual art venues on Syracuse University's campus
BY WHO: David Prince, Associate Director of SUArt Galleries and Staff from Light Work and Special Collections Research Center
WHEN: 6 PM, June 21, 2007
WHERE: Meet at SUArt Galleries in Shaffer Art Building
HOW: FREE parking is available in the Q4 VIP lot across from the main campus bus stop. Please enter through the security gate located near Comstock and Euclid. OR Take the Connective Corridor Shuttle Bus (schedule at http://connectivecorridor.syr.edu/) from another Th3 venue to the SU Campus.

Artists will also be available to meet as part of an ongoing featured artist program at Eureka Crafts. For June's Th3, Eureka Crafts will be featuring Sam Graceffo, a local jeweler, who will be demonstrating jewelry making techniques using silver wire. Artists may also be present at Delavan Art Gallery and The Redhouse's Rothenberg Gallery.

Making Syracuse’s active visual art scene more accessible to the public, Th3 provides a common day and time for viewing art. Th3 is a galvanizing force in supporting and recognizing local artistic achievements and the creation and display of visual art in Syracuse, NY. Venues may offer unique programming on Th3 evenings- some may have food and drinks, while others may host receptions or special programming.
